Security deposit terms.

Version of 7 October 2026.

Who this page is for

It is for guests who saved their card during online check-in and whose authorisation names a property manager acting "on behalf of the property owner". If the authorisation you accepted does not say this, the property manager keeps the imprint on their own payment account: their own terms apply, and you should contact them.

In short

Saving your card does not charge any amount. Your bank may briefly show a check of a few cents or one euro, which disappears on its own. Your card is only charged for damage, after you leave, up to the deposit amount you were shown. If there is no damage, your card imprint is deleted automatically.

Who does what

What you accept

When you save your card, you accept an authorisation text shown on the Stripe payment page. It states the property manager's name and the deposit amount. This page explains how it works; if in doubt, the text you accepted prevails.

When your card can be charged

A charge is only possible if all of these conditions are met:

  1. After you leave. No charge is possible before the end of the departure day shown in your booking, in the property manager's time zone.
  2. On a report opened in time. The property manager must have opened a damage report within 72 hours of the end of that departure day. Without a report opened within that time, your card can no longer be charged.
  3. For your stay. The charge must relate to the stay for which you saved your card.
  4. Up to the amount shown. A charge can never exceed the deposit amount shown when you saved your card. It can be lower.
  5. One charge. Your deposit can only be charged once per stay. If your bank declines a charge, the property manager may try again, or contact you.

The charge is made in your absence. You do not need to do or approve anything.

The deposit is a guarantee, not a cap on your liability: if damage exceeds its amount, the property manager or the owner may claim the difference by other means.

If your card is charged

When your card imprint is deleted

Once these periods have passed, your card can no longer be charged for this stay.

Disputing a charge

  1. First, write to the property manager who hosted you: they reported the damage and can show you the report or refund you.
  2. You can also dispute the charge with your bank. The dispute is then handled by the property owner, from their Stripe account, with evidence provided by the property manager.

HeyTia does not settle disagreements between you and the property manager, but you can write to us if you believe these terms were not followed.
